Grappa, the famous Italian spirit. Distilled from the grape products left over after wine-making, Grappa has been produced in Italy for over 500 years. It can be quite potent - some varieties contain up to 60% alcohol. Italians often drink grappa as a degistif after a meal as it helps cleanse the stomach after the meal and promote digestion. They also use different glasses depending on the type of Grappa - for young grappas it is best to use a small tulip shaped glass while older grappas are best drunk from a larger cognac snifter to enable the drinker to enjoy the aroma before drinking.
